Currently, many children are facing poverty, which affects children more than we think. It not only exists on the physical health or emaciation, but it also causes psychological and mental damage.
Children indeed need a lot of nutrients to grow physically and mentally. However, poor children don't even have enough food to survive, let alone enough nutrients. This has resulted in children being mentally retarded and unable to absorb knowledge. Moreover, they not only feel fear and anxiety because they don't know if there is enough food for themselves, and for the future of their families. This pressure creates an unstable and insecure environment for children's minds.
“Health and nutritional deficiencies also cause 1.9 million children under the age of five to be stunted, leaving permanent physical and brain damage.” - UNICEF.
Problems with childhood hunger won't end as a child grows up. Malnutrition prevents the brain from developing, resulting in the child having problems processing and retaining information, even understanding possible simple information.
Furthermore, the constant lack of food and the associated fear of not knowing if they have enough to eat can lead to psychological problems that can last a lifetime. A child who goes hungry can face trust issues, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and other mental illnesses such as chronic anxiety and depression as an adult.
This problem is a vicious cycle. It is difficult for them to find decent work to support themselves and their families, when those children grow up with an unhealthy mental health. Then, their children may mimic something they did in the past.
This problem will not end, if we is not aware of the problem. It's necessary that we can do right now is to help those who cannot help themselves. Understanding, NhiLe Team has launched NhiLe Foundation with the aim of helping children receive enough food for proper physical and mental development. Hence, creating a brighter future for the young generation of Vietnam.
